Traffic will ply for the second consecutive day on Friday from Srinagar to Jammu on the national highway, the only road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
No vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction, a traffic police official said this morning.
There was no change in the situation on 434-km-long Srinagar-Lehhigh way, the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) Ladakh with Kashmir, and 98-km-long Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri andPoonch in Jammu region, and Anantnag-Kishtwar road which remained closed for the past 46 days on Friday due to accumulation of snow and slippery conditions.
Traffic official said vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu for the second day today. However, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) had to cross Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, between 0700 hrs to 1100 hrs.
Later, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed to ply inthe afternoon, he said.
Official source said over 2500 HMVs were stopped on this side of the Jawhar tunnel following slippery road conditions due to sub zero temperature last evening. However, authorities later used salt and Urea to defreeze the water on roads and allowed all HMVs to leave for Jammu.
Meanwhile, several thousand vehicles, including trucks carrying essentials for Kashmir, are stranded at Udhampur and otherplaces in Jammu region.Leave a comment
